During his address in Kanpur on June 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a strong message to the nation and its adversaries. Referring to escalating threats and recent operations, he said India is no longer intimidated by nuclear warnings or cross-border terrorism. He asserted that every attack on Indian soil will be met with a powerful and decisive response.
PM Modi cited the recent success of Operation Sindoor as a turning point. He highlighted that India's homegrown BrahMos missile had “entered the enemy’s house and caused havoc,” showing the world the capability of Made in India weaponry. "Wherever the target was set, there were explosions," the Prime Minister said, emphasizing the operation’s surgical precision.
The Prime Minister laid down a three-point strategy that will define India's counter-terror approach going forward:
Modi linked India’s recent defense advancements to the broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He noted how the country once depended heavily on foreign nations for military equipment, but that has changed with a renewed focus on domestic defense manufacturing. This independence, he said, is vital not just for the economy but also for national pride.
PM Modi especially praised Uttar Pradesh for its growing role in India’s defense sector. He highlighted how Kanpur’s traditional ordnance factories have been modernized and transformed into powerful defense corporations. Nearby Amethi has also begun manufacturing AK-203 rifles, while the formidable BrahMos missile now has its roots in UP.
The Prime Minister used Kanpur Metro as an example of development reaching beyond metro cities. "If there is a government with the right intentions, strong will, and good governance, development is inevitable," he declared. According to Modi, Kanpur now mirrors the facilities and infrastructure of India’s biggest cities a sign of the changing times.
