Qatar Orders Iranian Security Personnel To Leave Country After Ras Laffan Missile Attack (x)

New Delhi: Qatar on Thursday ordered Iranian security personnel and military attaches to leave the country within 24 hours after Iranian missiles caused “extensive damage” to the Ras Laffan Industrial City, which is the world's largest gas hub in Qatar.

What did Qatar say to Iran officials?

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday declared that the security and military attache in Iran’s embassy as "persona non grata", and gave them 24 hours to leave the country.

What is there in the Ras Laffan Industrial City?

Ras Laffan houses the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export complex in Qatar, that features 14 production trains with a combined capacity of 77 million metric tonnes per year.

This facility accounts for nearly all of Qatar’s LNG output and supplies roughly one-fifth of global LNG volumes.

What happen after the strike?

The Qatari Ministry of Interior on Thursday said that civil defence crews have “fully contained all fires in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area without recording any injuries."

The ministry further said that cooling and securing operations are continuing at the sites, adding that security forces are dealing with any “hazardous” substances.

Qatari Ministry in the statement also said no injuries were recorded till now.

What did Trump say about the attack?

US President Donald Trump after the deadly airstrike in Ras Laffan threatened ‘destruction’ of South Pars.

In a social media post, President Donald Trump threatened to destroy the South Pars gas field if Iran attacks Qatar, saying that "the US was not privy to the attack plans."

“Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as the South Pars gas field in Iran,” Trump said on Truth Social. 

“The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape or form involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen," he added.

“I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long-term implications it will have on the future of Iran, but if Qatar’s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so,” Trump said.
