Several Dead As Explosion Rips Through Bar In Switzerland's Crans Montana Resort Town

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, several people have been killed while many have been injured after an explosion ripped through a bar in the ski resort town of Crans-Montana, according to Swiss police. At the time of the bar about 100 people were in the bar, said police. 

A police spokesperson in Wallis canton in southwestern Switzerland, Gaetan Lathion, told AFP, “There has been an explosion of unknown origin,” Gaetan added, “There are several injured, and several dead.”

Further informing about the tragic explosion, he said that the explosion took place at about 1:30am (0030 GMT) in a bar called Le Constellation. The bar is popular with tourists as revellers rang in the new year.

He further added, “More than a hundred people were in the building, and we are seeing many injured and many dead.” “We’re just at the beginning of our investigation, but this is a internationally renowned ski resort with lots of tourists,” Lathion said.

Where the incident took place?

The resort, Crans-Montana is located in the Swiss Alps. It is majorly famous among tourist and attracts visitors from around the globe. It is located around two hours from the Swiss capital of Bern. It is known for popular sports activities such as golf, skiing, and snowboarding.

It is to be noted here that each year in Switzerland, the incident of wildfires occur, mainly during the hot and dry periods. Notably, between 2001 to 2024, Switzerland lost over 3% of its forest cover due to fires.
