Thunderous pro-Khalistani slogans were raised by the people when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau walked up to the stage to address the community on the occasion of Khalsa Day in Toronto. At the event, the Canadian PM assured the Sikh Community in the country that their government will always protect their rights and freedom at any cost.

While speaking at the event, Trudeau asserted that diversity is Canada’s strength and the country is strong because of those differences. He also noted that the government is enhancing the security and infrastructure programs by ‘adding more security at community centers and places of worship.’

"That is precisely your right—the freedom to follow your religion without fear of coercion. In his statement on Khalsa Day, Trudeau reassured the Sikh community, "A fundamental right guaranteed in the Canadian Charter of rights and freedoms that we will always stand up and defend you for."

Trudeau continued with his remarks by saying "I know many of you have loved ones that you want to see more often, that is why our government has negotiated a new agreement with India to add more flights, and more routes between our countries, and we will keep working with our counterparts to add even more flights, including to Amritsar."

It is worth noting that the statement from the Canadian PM has come when India and Canada are going through tough diplomatic relations. The killing of India-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar sparked the between the two countries.

In September, last year, Trudeau made allegations of India’s involvement in Nijjar’s killing in Canada. However, India has rejected the allegations, calling them ‘absurd and motivated.
