Earthquake in the Philippines: A strong earthquake struck the southern Philippines on Friday morning. According to the seismological agency, the quake measured 7.6 in magnitude. A tsunami warning has been issued, and residents in coastal areas have been urged to evacuate.

The Phivolcs agency has warned residents of Manay City, Davao Oriental, in the Philippines' Mindanao region, to be alert for possible aftershocks and high waves. According to the agency, waves one meter or more above normal tide could rise within the next two hours.

The US Tsunami Warning

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported the quake's magnitude as 7.4 and its depth as 58 kilometers (36 miles). The US Tsunami Warning System has also warned of dangerous waves for coasts within 300 kilometers (186 miles) of the epicenter.

Initial reports have not reported any serious damage or destruction. The tremor was so strong that people rushed out of their homes in panic. Earthquakes are caused by the collision or sliding of the Earth's plates. When the plates shift, they cause vibrations beneath the ground. We feel these vibrations as tremors.
