Dhaka: Big political change is happening in Bangladesh as BNP Chairman Tariq Rehman will take oath as the new Prime Minister of the country on Tuesday. The BNP has achieved a historic victory in the recently held general elections. With this victory, BNP is once again returning to power after almost 20 years.

60-year-old Tariq Rehman is going to become Prime Minister for the first time. He is the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Khaleda ji died on 30 December, after which Tariq took charge of the party and returned to Bangladesh in December after 18 years in London.

Now what will happen to this interim government?

On August 5, 2024, the students' movement overthrew Sheikh Hasina's government. After that the interim government of Mohammad Yunus lasted for about 18 months. Now after such a big victory for BNP, this government is coming to an end. Yunus has cleared the way.

When and where will the oath take place?

The Oath Ceremony will take place at 4 pm on Tuesday at South Plaza of Parliament House, Dhaka. President Mohammad Shahabuddin will administer the oath to Tariq Rahman and his cabinet. Before that, the oath of new MPs will take place at 10 am. And there is also a parliamentary party meeting of BNP on the same day – there Tariq will be formally elected as the leader.

Who will go from India?

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is going from India's side. He will also be accompanied by Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri and Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh. This is considered a good sign for the relations between the two countries.

Minorities also got tickets and victory?

The good thing is that BNP gave good representation to the minorities this time. Four people have reached Parliament – two of them Hindu leaders:

  • Gayeshwar Chandra Rai (from Dhaka)
  • Nitai Rai Chaudhary (from West Magura)
  • Both of them defeated Jamaat-e-Islami people.
  • Apart from this, Saching Pru and Deepen Devan from the Buddhist community also won.
