Time travel? IB board students leak exam questions by... Will it affect results?

The IB exams started on April 24. The two-hour Maths exam was conducted on 1st and 2nd May whereas, the paper leak came to light on 3 May 2024. The IB Board accepted this. However, the board has not made any mention about which country the paper was leaked from. According to SMCP report, the paper's content was downloaded more than 45,000 times. According to the principals of the Mumbai-based school, the paper was uploaded from Turkey.

According to him, considering the time difference, the chances of Indian students getting benefited from it were very less, but this material could have benefited the students of Hong Kong, Singapore, Europe and America. The Switzerland-based board has been in existence for more than 55 years. It is being told that this is the first incident of paper leak in the history of the board. In such a situation, no attention was paid to 'time zone cheating' earlier.

Conducts examination in three zones

The board conducts the examination in three time zones with a similar timetable, which includes Asia and Australia in Zone A, Europe and Africa in Zone B and America in Zone C. According to the board, some students involved in time zone cheating have been identified, which will be investigated. If found guilty, students may face serious consequences, including not being awarded marks for the relevant subjects, not being awarded a diploma and being banned from further examinations.

The International Baccalaureate is a prestigious education system. The IB is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and was established in 1968. According to the information, more than 8,000 courses are conducted in 5,700 schools in 160 countries. It is a non-profit organization governed by a board of governors representing cultural interests. There are 210 IB World Schools in India. It has a large number of schools in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai.

Will it affect results?

Students studying the International Baccalaureate (IB) have been left fearful they will be forced to retake exams or have their qualifications downgraded after question papers were leaked online. Several versions of papers for the A-level alternative were shared to encrypted messaging platform Telegram in an effort to help students taking the exam in a different time zone or at a later date.
