WORLD NEWS: On January 20, 2025, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the inauguration of President Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States, marking a significant moment for US-India relations. Following the ceremony, Jaishankar expressed optimism about the future of bilateral ties, emphasizing the Trump administration's commitment to building on previous foundations.
Jaishankar highlighted the enthusiasm of the Trump administration towards India's involvement in key initiatives. "It was very clear that the Trump administration was keen to have India present at the inaugural itself. They're clearly prioritising the bilateral relationship," he stated. This indicates a robust intent to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
In his remarks, Jaishankar underscored the importance of advancing the Quad—a strategic dialogue involving the US, India, Japan, and Australia. He noted that there is a strong sense from the current administration to reciprocate India's desire to intensify Quad activities, reflecting a shared commitment to regional security and cooperation.
During his visit, Jaishankar also held crucial discussions with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. This marked Rubio’s first bilateral engagement since taking office, underscoring India's significance in US foreign policy.
