US President Donald Trump said the Gaza War is now over. He called it the "eighth war" he has resolved during his tenure. This is his first visit to Israel and Egypt since he brokered a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. He stated that the purpose of the trip is to consolidate the ceasefire, advance the reconstruction of Gaza, and move forward the fragile process of regional peace.
Trump, citing his record, said his administration has resolved numerous global conflicts. He said, "This is my eighth war I've resolved. And I heard there's a war going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan. I will return and settle this, because I am good at settling wars.”
His statements have come amid increasing tension on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan. According to Afghan officials, 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed in retaliation, while the Pakistan Army confirmed 23 casualties.
Trump also mentioned other past wars, including the India-Pakistan one, that he helped resolve. "Think about India and Pakistan, some wars that had been going on for decades. I resolved most of them in a day. That's pretty cool." The President said that his peace efforts saved "millions of lives." He said, "I didn't do it for the Nobel; I did it to save lives."
Trump explained that economic pressure, not diplomacy, was instrumental in preventing a war between India and Pakistan. "I said if you guys want to fight and have nuclear weapons, I'll impose heavy tariffs on both of you. I resolved it in 24 hours."
Trump's visit to the Middle East is to strengthen the ceasefire and monitor the Israel-Hamas hostage exchange. He said the hostages could be released prematurely. Trump will first go to Jerusalem, where he will address Israel's parliament, the Knesset. He will then travel to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and co-chair a peace conference with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The conference will be attended by more than 20 world leaders and aims to finalize a ceasefire, rebuild Gaza, and promote regional normalization.
Trump said there is now a “narrow window of opportunity” to turn the Middle East toward lasting peace and cooperation. “It is time to build something permanent,” he said. The cease-fire, now in its fourth day, is the first phase of Trump's proposed peace framework, which aims to bring a permanent end to the Gaza conflict and establish a new governance structure for the territory.
