International News: President Donald Trump declared he has ended seven wars, including conflicts between Israel and Iran, India and Pakistan, and Thailand and Cambodia. He has long sought recognition as a global peacemaker. Trump made these claims while reminding the world that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Republicans and his supporters have branded him the “President of Peace,” while critics question whether his strategies truly created long-lasting peace or temporary calm.

Gaza peace plan revealed

Weeks after his claim, Trump announced a 20-point Gaza peace plan involving Israel and Hamas. The plan, if implemented, could end two years of brutal conflict that killed over 67,000 people. Trump posted on Truth Social that both sides had agreed to the first phase of the deal. His timing came just as the Nobel Prizes were due to be announced, adding fuel to speculation about his chances.

Hostage exchange deal first

The first stage of Trump’s peace plan involves Hamas releasing 48 hostages, including 20 believed alive, in return for Israel freeing around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The move, expected to take effect Thursday, is being hailed as a breakthrough. Trump celebrated the agreement with the words “Blessed are the Peacemakers,” framing himself as the leader who brought the bitter rivals to the negotiating table after years of devastating war.

Trump hailed as peacemaker

Since returning to the White House, Trump has never hidden his ambition to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He has cited his role in halting wars and preventing clashes worldwide. At the UN General Assembly last month, he again insisted he “deserved” the award. His allies in the White House even released a portrait calling him “The Peace President,” showing how much political energy is being invested in this campaign.

Challenges to implementation remain

Despite the announcement, doubts remain over Israel’s willingness to honor the truce. Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich already declared that once hostages are freed, Israel must “destroy Hamas completely.” Rights groups also warned that past ceasefires collapsed quickly because Israel tightened blockades instead of easing them. Analysts fear this truce may face the same fate unless both sides commit to genuine peace and trust-building measures.

Accusations of pressure tactics

Critics suggest Trump’s approach relied more on threats than diplomacy. Reports claim he warned Hamas to accept the plan “unconditionally or face obliteration.” Some analysts argue that while Trump forced progress, such tactics may not create sustainable peace. Still, his supporters say only a strong leader could achieve such results, and his style of “tough negotiation” worked where others failed to bring Israel and Hamas closer to peace.

Nobel Prize decision ahead

The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 will be announced on October 10. Trump has been nominated by countries including Pakistan, Israel, Cambodia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Rwanda and Gabon. If he wins, he would join former US leaders Jimmy Carter, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, and Barack Obama. Whether he truly deserves it remains debated, but his Gaza peace push has brought him closer to his long-cherished dream of global recognition.
