Washington: US President Donald Trump is continuously making efforts to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump has previously expressed his desire to end this war, and now he claims that his administration is very close to an agreement that can stop this long-running war.
During an event held at the White House, Trump said that he has ended eight wars in the last nine months and now he is working to end this last conflict. He acknowledged that it will not be easy, but he believes that both sides are now very close to an agreement. Trump also noted that nearly 25,000 Russian and Ukrainian soldiers were killed last month, further reinforcing the urgent need for a solution.
Trump said that his team is working rapidly to advance the initial 28-point peace framework. Many changes have been made to this plan based on suggestions received from both Russia and Ukraine, and now only a few controversial points remain.
To expedite final negotiations, Trump has sent his special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow so that he can talk directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Along with this, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll will discuss the remaining terms with Ukrainian officials.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that he is getting information about the progress from Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the White House team. He says that he will meet President Zelensky and Putin only when the agreement is almost finalized or has reached the final stage. He said that everyone's hope is that this war should end soon and peace can be restored.
If this agreement is successful, then it will be considered the biggest step towards ending the war. Nearly 25,000 soldiers have died in the last month alone, clearly demonstrating the magnitude and human cost of this conflict.
The White House says that much progress has been made in talks between the US, Ukraine and Russia, but further discussion is still necessary on some sensitive issues. White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said some complex points would have to be resolved before an agreement could be reached.
On Sunday, representatives of the US and Ukraine met in Geneva, in which the 28-point US proposal was discussed in detail. After the meeting, both countries announced the drafting of a possible peace framework.
Ukrainian President Zelensky said that after negotiations there have been many improvements in the US proposal, and now the plan is more balanced and acceptable than before. Ukraine's National Security Council Secretary Rustam Umarov said that several important points were agreed upon during the Geneva talks. He said Kiev is now preparing for Zelensky's visit to the United States in November to finalize the agreement.
