International News: A US federal court has given the government time till October 14, questioning Donald Trump's tariff policy. For now, the tariffs will remain in force, but if the Supreme Court also rejects them, then Trump's entire strategy may be ruined.
The Trump administration had imposed heavy tariffs on foreign goods in 2022. This decision earned the US about $159 billion (about Rs 14 lakh crore) by July 2025. Now this amount may have to be returned when the court order is implemented. This will have a profound impact on the US treasury and will increase the additional burden on the economy.
The US is currently negotiating new trade agreements with several countries. Due to tariffs, the US's position was strong in these deals. But if the final court decision comes against the tariffs, then the US's credibility in these negotiations will be weakened, and the trust of allied countries may also be shaken.
Trump says that removing tariffs would be a "threat to American industry and employment." He claims that taxing foreign goods has boosted domestic production. At the same time, economists believe that if tariffs are completely abolished, not only will billions of dollars have to be returned, but the confidence of global investors will also be shaken.
Now the matter will go to the Supreme Court. If Trump's policy is declared unconstitutional there too, then this decision will prove to be a big setback for the US. The result will not be limited to only financial losses, but the credibility of the US at the international level and the credibility of Trump's economic policies will also be at stake.
