Washington: On Saturday, US President Donald Trump clearly said that America will keep the command of Venezuela in its hands for now. This statement came after the military action in which Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was captured. Speaking to the media in Florida, Trump said that America will not step back until there is a safe and balanced transition of power.
Trump said that America's purpose is not permanent rule. He said that America will fulfill its responsibility till the situation is handled and a proper system is established. He also acknowledged that the process of transfer of power will not be easy; hence, every step will be taken thoughtfully.
At the beginning of the press conference, Trump described this military operation as a major achievement of the American Army. According to him, such a large operation in such a short time was not possible for any other country. He claimed that after this action Venezuela's military power was completely neutralized.
Trump described Maduro's leadership as harmful for Venezuela. He said that this step has been taken with the intention of bringing peace and stability there. According to Trump, America wants freedom and justice for the Venezuelan people, not anarchy.
On this question, Trump said that America does not want to take any risk in which power again falls into the wrong hands. He said that the people of Venezuela have been paying the price of wrong decisions for a long time, and now this will not be allowed to happen again.
Trump made it clear that the US will remain present in Venezuela during the transition period. He said that America will continue to play its role until a reliable and stable system is created.
Trump also mentioned Venezuela's huge oil reserves. He said that American oil companies will help in improving the dilapidated infrastructure there. According to him, this will not only bring investment but will also support the Venezuelan economy.
Trump said that if the situation worsens, America is ready to take further strict action. He said that the plan for the second phase already existed, but it was not needed at the moment.
