Trump warns China over oil supplies to Russia: US President Donald Trump has further intensified the trade dispute with China. During a press conference held at the White House, Trump said that if a new trade agreement is not made with China by November 1, then a 155% tariff will be imposed on China. The warning came in the context of buying crude oil from Russia, but Trump linked it to broader trade policies. Trump stressed that China is currently paying 55% tariffs and that additional 100% tariffs would be imposed at current rates, bringing the total to 155%.
Tariffs announced on China: "Right now, starting November 1, there will be about 155% tariffs on China. I don't think that will be sustainable for China." Trump said that he wants to treat China well, but due to the weak policies of previous presidents, China took advantage of America. "China has been very tough on us over the years because our president was not business-savvy. He allowed China and every other country to take advantage of us."
Deals with other countries: Trump claimed that because of the tariff policy, he made strong deals with the European Union, Japan, and South Korea. "Many of these deals are very good. It's about national security. We're getting hundreds of billions, even trillions,, of dollars in payments to the United States. We'll start paying down the debt." He said that many countries used to take advantage of America earlier, but this cannot happen now.
Meeting with Jinping: Trump made optimistic remarks that he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea in two weeks. "I'm hopeful that we're going to make a fair trade deal with Chinese President Jinping. I think this conversation will be positive." This meeting will focus on trade issues.

Trump posted on Truth Social on October 10 to announce additional 100% tariffs and export controls on critical software in response to China's rare earth export restrictions. The move could rekindle the US-China trade war, which was previously calmed by phased agreements. Experts believe that the 155% tariff will affect the global supply chain, especially in the electronics and automotive sectors. The news is also viral on X (formerly Twitter), where users are calling Trump's policy "essential for national security," while some are calling it "economic suicide."
