International News: The leaders of European countries will reach the White House at 9:30 pm on Monday. These leaders are reaching Washington to attend the meeting of US President Donald Trump with Ukrainian President Zelensky. According to CNN, Trump and Zelensky will meet at 10:30 pm; a bilateral meeting is to be held between Trump and Zelensky at 10:45 pm.
After this, Trump will meet European leaders at 11:45 pm. This meeting is also considered important because so many great leaders of the world are meeting in one room after about 50 years to stop the war.
In 1975, a historic conference was held in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, in which leaders of 35 countries participated. The purpose of this meeting was to end the Cold War and fix peace and boundaries in Europe. After the Helsinki Agreement, the ice of the Cold War started melting. Now, 50 years later, the leaders of Europe are again holding a similar meeting in the capital of America.
In Washington, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte will meet Trump along with Ukrainian President Zelensky. The purpose of this meeting is to stop the Ukraine war, which has become Europe's biggest crisis.
There is no hope of a decision on a ceasefire from this meeting, but European leaders can strongly put forward Ukraine's side in Trump's next meeting with Putin. In Zelensky's last meeting with Trump, Trump appeared aggressive towards Zelensky. This time the leaders of European countries are coming with Zelensky so that Ukraine's side can be strongly put forward.
The Helsinki Conference of 1975, also known as the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE), concluded on 1 August 1975 with the signing of the Helsinki Final Act. Signed by 35 countries, including the US, Canada, and all European countries except Albania, this historic agreement was aimed at improving relations between the Soviet bloc and the West during the Cold War. The Final Act focused on three major areas: political and military aspects of security, economic and environmental cooperation, and humanitarian cooperation.
