Ceasefire in Jeopardy as US Bombs Iran's Drone and Missile Installations Amid Rising Middle East Tensions (Image Courtesy: Facebook)
Washington: Hopes for peace in the Middle East have been dealt a blow. On Friday, America carried out air strikes on several military bases in Iran. According to the US Army, these attacks were carried out on Iran's missile and drone warehouses as well as radar stations located on the coast. America alleges that Iran attacked a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz with a drone, in response to which this action was taken.
American Central Command i.e. CENTCOM said that Iran has broken the recently signed ceasefire agreement. American officials say that the drone attack on the cargo ship was a major threat to international maritime trade and the movement of ships. To avenge this, retaliatory action was taken against Iranian military bases.
The US Army targeted only those locations where there was confirmed information about the presence of missiles and drones. Apart from this, coastal radar stations monitoring the sea were also bombed. America claims that attacks on cargo ships were being planned from these bases.
Shortly after the attack, Iranian state media reported that a massive explosion had occurred near the Taheruyeh pier in the southern port city of Sirik. Local people say that the sound of the explosion echoed in the entire area. However, no definite information has been received about the extent of damage caused or any casualties.
These attacks have taken place at a time when talks were going on to reduce tension in the area and maintain ceasefire. But this latest military action between America and Iran has again made the situation critical. Experts believe that if both countries do not take control now, then the peace of the entire Middle East and the maritime trade around the world may be in danger.
