International News: A major diplomatic step has come to light towards reducing the long-standing trading tension between the US and China. US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that an important trade agreement between the two countries has now been prepared, which is now in the process of final approval. Under this agreement, China will supply rare minerals and magnets to the US, while the US will allow Chinese students to enter their universities.

Trump shared this information on his social media platform 'Truth Social' and said, "Our agreement is ready, which is under the final approval of Mary and President Xi. China will supply rare minerals, and we will give Chinese students an opportunity for education under our promise."

After tariff and stress, now the path of understanding

Significantly, in May 2025, the tariff war between the US and China brought a huge sourness to the trading relations of the two countries. China imposed several types of restrictions on the export of rare minerals to the US, impacting American technical and defense industries. At the same time, the US had also implemented heavy duties (tariffs) on imported products from China.

Trump also stated in his post that "we are getting 55% tariffs, while China is only 10%," which is being considered a major strategic benefit in the interest of America.

London talks became the decisive turn

The agreement is the result of a recent bilateral dialogue in London, which agreed to export rare minerals. The Deputy Prime Minister of China said during this time that "Beijing is ready for strong cooperation with Washington." This indicates that China is also serious about this cooperation and wants to bring relationships back on track.

What are rare minerals, and why are they important?

Rare earth minerals are used in high-tech devices, missile systems, smartphones, electric vehicles, and satellites. Their supply has been extremely worrying for the US defense and industry sector. China is the largest producer and exporter of these minerals in the world.

Exchange of education & culture will also be promoted

The second aspect of this agreement is connected to the education sector. The US has allowed Chinese students to restudy in their universities and colleges. In the last few years, due to security concerns, many types of restrictions were imposed on these students. Now this new initiative is expected to strengthen educational and cultural relations.

The last seal remains, but the atmosphere positive

However, Trump has made it clear that the agreement has not yet been fully implemented and its final seal is yet to be imposed by him and President Xi Jinping. But seeing the attitude of both sides, it is clear that it has become a mere formality.

From business to trust

This new trade agreement between the US and China is a symbol of moving relations towards consent from conflict. While on the one hand it will strengthen global trade stability, on the other hand new avenues will also open in the fields of technology, education, and diplomacy. This is a moment that can determine the direction of bilateral policy in the coming years.
