US vetoes Gaza ceasefire resolution in the UNSC. (Social Media)
Gaza Crisis: On Thursday, an important meeting was held in the United Nations Security Council regarding the Gaza conflict. The proposal demanded an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. Apart from this, it was also said that Israel should not impose any ban on providing humanitarian aid in Palestinian areas.
But the US used its veto on this proposal. Out of the 15 members of the Security Council, 14 supported the proposal. This is the sixth time the US has used a veto on proposals related to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The draft resolution was prepared by 10 elected members. It not only demanded a ceasefire but also appealed for the immediate and honorable release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups. The resolution was introduced in August, when the United Nations warned of a growing humanitarian crisis and famine in Gaza.
The situation of Gaza was very serious during the voting. Israeli tanks and jets carried out continuous attacks on Gaza City, forcing thousands of people to flee south. Eating and drinking and water supply have become difficult. Shelling and bombing have made the lives of common people difficult, and many families have had to leave their homes and live in tents.
Pakistan and China also introduced a separate resolution in the Security Council. It recommended designating the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its suicide wing, the Majeed Brigade, as terrorist organizations. Pakistan's Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, stated that these organizations operate from Afghanistan and have more than 60 camps active for cross-border attacks.
After the US veto, it has become clear that bringing peace to Gaza soon is not achievable. While most of the members immediately want a ceasefire, the US is still supporting Israel. Meanwhile, common people in Gaza are constantly facing conflicts and humanitarian crisis. Things are becoming more difficult for them every day.
