US Launches Fresh Strike Near Strait of Hormuz, Iran Furious as Peace Talks Face Fresh Setback (X)
Tehran: The US military carried out a new military strike in Iran on Wednesday night. These strikes targeted a military base located near the Strait of Hormuz. According to media reports, a US official said that this base was posing a threat to Washington forces and merchant ships. These strikes were carried out after the US shot down several drones sent by Iran and bombed the missile site.
The US official said that these strikes were defensive action. Iran had attempted a drone attack, which posed a threat to US forces and merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, Iran fired four killer drones at an American merchant ship, in response to which the military attacked a drone launch unit located on the ground.
Four explosions were reported near the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas at around 1:30 am local time. Iranian state TV reported that air defense systems were activated. The military base in Bandar Abbas that was attacked was an Iranian ground control station preparing to launch a fifth drone.
An official said that these actions were measured and purely defensive, and aimed at maintaining the ceasefire. Bandar Abbas is Iran's most important port on the Persian Gulf.
Earlier, the US military had carried out several attacks on the city late Monday night, targeting a missile launch site and two sea mine-laying boats. A Central Command spokesman had said that the attacks were carried out in self-defense.
The latest US attacks are raising the risk of another war. US President Donald Trump said that the current talks are going very well and Iran is fully prepared to reach a deal. "I think they're starting to give us the things they have to give us," hesaid.
Trump also said that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to all and the US military will monitor it to ensure that it remains out of Tehran's control.
