New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has announced plans to purchase diesel from Russia. Trump, who previously signed a bill imposing tariffs on India and China for purchasing Russian oil, has now reached an agreement to allow Russian oil to enter the US and global markets for the next three months.
This agreement comes at a time when the US midterm elections are approaching and rising crude oil prices are putting pressure on Trump. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has further exacerbated the situation.
Donald Trump, who once imposed tariffs on India for buying Russian oil, announced on Saturday that he has signed a great energy deal with Putin. Trump announced this deal through a post on the social media site Truth Social.
Trump wrote, "I have just completed a very successful conversation with Russian President Putin. It has been decided that Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the US and global markets, will supply another 500,000 tons in the month of November, and will supply another 1000,000 tons soon after that. After this, depending on the condition of its diesel refineries, Russia will supply another 3000,000 tons of diesel fuel in a short time."
Trump's decision comes at a time when oil prices are skyrocketing globally due to the Iran war. Rising crude oil prices are driving inflation worldwide, and its effects are being felt in the United States as well. Trump has set a deadline of November for this deal with Russia, when the US midterm elections will be underway.
US President Donald Trump stated that control of the Strait of Hormuz and the energy deal with Russia will lead to record low oil prices worldwide and in the United States. "Lowering prices for Americans, especially our great farmers, ranchers, and truck drivers, is my top priority. This is a huge and important announcement. It's also important to understand that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon!" However, not much information has been revealed about this deal yet. Only when the full details are revealed will we know to what extent India will benefit from this.
US President Donald Trump is currently facing midterm elections. Oil prices are skyrocketing due to the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz embargo. The US has a large group of truck drivers and owners, as 60 to 70 percent of freight is transported by trucks. These truck drivers are the most affected by the increased diesel prices. In this context, Trump's primary objective is to regain their trust and secure their votes. Since a crude oil deal with Russia would have required more time for transportation and refining, Trump has struck a deal to supply diesel directly to the US and global markets.
Since the Donald Trump government came to power in the US, India has been continuously targeted. One of Trump's ministers even blamed India for the Ukraine war. However, now the same US is preparing to purchase Russian diesel for its own benefit. The US Congress recently passed a law imposing a 100% tariff on countries purchasing Russian oil. At that time, US lawmakers warned India and China. But this decision now reveals America's duplicity.
