US Raised Alarm Over Alleged Israeli Plan to Target Iran's Senior Negotiators (Image Courtesy: Facebook)
Washington: Amidst the ongoing tension in the Middle East, a new report has created a stir in diplomatic circles. The report claims that America feared that Israel might target some of Iran's top leaders. In view of this threat, Washington asked many countries in the region to warn Iran about a possible attack so that the ceasefire talks going on since April are not affected.
According to the report, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were the possible targets. American officials were concerned that if these two leaders were attacked, the ceasefire and peace talks could be completely derailed.
It has been claimed that America tried to send a message to Tehran through several countries in the Middle East that Israel could attack top Iranian leaders. Washington believed that such a move could again lead to a major military conflict in the region.
According to the report, at the beginning of the war Israel's focus was on targeting Iran's top leadership. However, as diplomatic talks progressed, the US wanted negotiations to be prioritized over military action. For this reason, differences began to appear in the strategies of the two countries.
Several rounds of talks have taken place between Iran and America in recent months. The two sides have agreed on an initial framework for maintaining maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and for further talks on future issues, including the nuclear programme. However, the final agreement has not been reached yet.
The report also claimed that Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf narrowly escaped possible attacks twice. In one incident, his plane reportedly had to make an emergency landing after fearing it was being targeted. Later he reached Tehran by road.
However, these claims have not yet been officially confirmed by the respective countries. The report also said that despite security concerns, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf visited Qatar and Switzerland in recent months, where they took part in peace talks.
