International News: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif attended the United Nations’ “AI Innovation Dialogue” to present his country’s views. Instead of a confident address, his repeated mispronunciations and fumbling delivery turned the speech into a comedy. Delegates expected Pakistan’s voice on AI to be serious, but Asif lost credibility in front of world leaders. The video from the event has spread quickly across social media platforms.
Observers counted at least seven blunders in a speech that lasted only a few minutes. Asif said “breathtaking space” instead of “breathtaking pace,” confused “risk” with “riks,” and even coined a bizarre word “developend” while talking about development. These repeated slips made his arguments unclear and drew laughter among netizens. For a Defence Minister representing Pakistan on a global stage, the errors looked deeply unprofessional.
Asif also attempted to highlight concerns about global security risks linked to artificial intelligence. He touched upon India-Pakistan tensions and mentioned Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army’s May strike in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. However, his poor delivery left the message completely muddled. Instead of stressing Pakistan’s view, the Defence Minister’s broken sentences and confused words made the subject sound weak and unconvincing.
Social media users across India and abroad mocked the Defence Minister. One user wrote, “Operation Sindoor has shaken him badly.” Another joked in Bollywood style, “What are you trying to say?” Memes comparing Asif’s UN appearance to a comedy show flooded Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Instead of building Pakistan’s image at the UN, the speech triggered jokes and embarrassment.
India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, 2025, was a response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Indian forces destroyed several terror bases inside Pakistan and PoK using advanced AI-enabled weapons. Asif tried to highlight this action as an example of “AI-driven warfare,” but his fumbling sentences failed to make the point. Instead, India’s decisive operation looked even more dominant in comparison.
The incident has damaged Pakistan’s image at a sensitive moment. At a time when global powers are debating AI security, Pakistan’s Defence Minister’s weak performance suggested a lack of seriousness. For India, the embarrassing moment only underscored the contrast in capability. Diplomats now say Pakistan’s failure to present a strong case could weaken its global position further.
Khawaja Asif’s viral video is now being shared as an example of how not to address the world stage. For Pakistan, already reeling from economic and diplomatic crises, the damage goes beyond comedy. The incident has raised questions about the preparedness and professionalism of its leadership. As laughter echoes online, the political fallout could last far longer.
