New Delhi: A new controversy has erupted over Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious American billionaire and convicted sex offender. A recently revealed FBI document claims that Epstein was allegedly "trained as a spy" under former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has categorically denied these allegations, stating that there is no evidence of Epstein working for Israel.

The document is reportedly part of a confidential FBI source report. It contained intelligence related to foreign influence on the American electoral process, but the source also shared several other claims concerning Epstein. According to the report, the source noted conversations between Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz and Epstein, and stated that information from these conversations was passed on to Israel's intelligence agency, Mossad.

What does the report claim?

The report also claims that, based on the conversations overheard by the source, the impression was created that Epstein might be a "Mossad operative." It was also allegedly stated that Epstein was connected to US and allied intelligence agencies. However, all these claims are based on a single source and have not been independently verified.

The document also includes other controversial allegations. It claims that Harvard Law Professor Dershowitz had ties to Mossad, alleges technology theft by a Silicon Valley venture firm, and mentions the deep ties between Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner's family and Israel. No concrete evidence supporting these allegations has been publicly presented.

On the other hand, the relationship between Epstein and Ehud Barak has been a subject of discussion before. The two had a long-standing connection, and Barak has acknowledged meeting Epstein several times, although he has denied any wrongdoing. What did Israel PM Netanyahu say about Epstein?

Responding to the issue, Netanyahu said that the close relationship between Epstein and Barak does not mean that Epstein worked for Israel. He launched a political attack on Barak, accusing him of trying to undermine his government for a long time.

"Jeffrey Epstein's unusual close relationship with Ehud Barak doesn't suggest Epstein worked for Israel. It proves the opposite. Stuck on his election loss from over two decades ago, Barak has for years obsessively attempted to undermine Israeli democracy," Netanyahu said in a statement on social media.

Overall, the claim that Epstein was a spy is currently limited to a report from a single intelligence source. It has not been independently confirmed, and the Israeli government has denied it. Therefore, the matter currently appears to be mired in accusations and counter-accusations.
