Washington, DC: Panic erupted near Harvard University late Friday evening when gunfire erupted among thousands of people gathered for Homecoming celebrations. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) reported that at least four people were injured, one in critical condition and another in serious condition. The shooting occurred at 8:23 p.m. local time in the 600 block of Howard Place, directly adjacent to the university's main campus (The Yard) and the School of Architecture.
The exact number of victims and the arrest of any suspects have not yet been confirmed. Police have secured the scene and launched an investigation.

DC Traffic Police immediately closed nearby roads for investigation. However, officials assured that the situation is under complete control.
Harvard University's annual Homecoming celebrations have been ongoing since last weekend and were scheduled to end on Sunday. Events such as the Homecoming Kickoff and Greek Step Show were scheduled for Friday. Several other events were scheduled for the weekend, but security has been tightened following the shooting.
The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. Police are investigating CCTV footage and witness statements. The university administration has advised students and parents to remain vigilant. The incident occurred while the historic Harvard University, one of America's leading universities, was immersed in its largest annual celebration. Police have urged people to avoid rumors and rely only on official information.
