West Asia Peace Deal In Jeopardy: US And Iran Exchange Strikes Days After Signing Agreement

Tehran: The West Asia peace deal is falling apart. Just few days ago the US and Iran signed an agreement. They wanted peace earlier but now they are fighting again. Pakistan stepped in and called Iran. It promised to keep working for peace. But both sides are attacking each other. The agreement seems in danger.

Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar spoke to Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday night. Dar told him Pakistan that he will keep trying to bring stability to the region. It will play a constructive role. Araghchi thanked Pakistan and said that Pakistan's support for the peace process is important.

What had happened?

The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18. The goal was peace in West Asia. On June 21, they had technical talks in Switzerland. Pakistan and Qatar helped mediate but the agreement lasted only days. Both sides went back to attacking.

On Friday, the US did airstrikes. They were hitting back. Why? Iran had sent drones at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz the day before.

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social. He said Iran fired at least four one-way attack drones. They targeted ships in the Strait of Hormuz. One drone hit hard as it struck the upper deck of a cargo ship. The ship got damaged but it kept moving. Trump blamed Iran for this. He said Iran attacked commercial vessels.
