Kyiv: Israel has decided to recognize Somaliland as a separate country. This step is surprising to the world, because till now no country had recognized Somaliland as officially independent. Israel has become the first country to do so. After this decision, the stir in the Horn of Africa region has intensified, and many countries are openly going against it.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that this decision has been taken after careful consideration. He informed us that a joint declaration has been signed between Israel and Somaliland. In this, both the countries have agreed to start formal relations with each other. Netanyahu praised Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, saying he was trying to bring peace and stability to his region. He has also been invited to come to Israel.
I announced today the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.

Somaliland has declared itself a separate country since 1991. The government, army, and administration there run completely differently from Somalia. Elections are also held there, and the situation inside is said to be more peaceful than in many African countries. Despite this, the countries of the world did not recognize it. Israel's decision may change this situation or create new controversies. It is not yet decided whether other countries will support or oppose this decision.
Somalia has expressed strong objection to this step. He says that Somaliland is a part of his country, and no outside country can take such a decision. Egypt, Turkey, and Djibouti have also expressed concern. They believe that this could increase tension in the area, and these decisions could give rise to further demands for secession. The Egyptian Foreign Minister has spoken to the leaders of these countries on the phone and described this matter as serious.
Meanwhile, some reports also claimed that the option of sending displaced people from Gaza to Somaliland was being discussed. However, both Somaliland and Somalia rejected this. He clearly said that he neither received any such offer nor would he accept anything like that.
The picture ahead of this decision of Israel is not yet clear. But it is certain that this step will definitely increase the tension in African politics and diplomacy, and in the coming days many countries will decide their position on this issue.
