New Delhi: Many men complain of frequent urination. Sometimes this is attributed to aging or common urinary problems. However, sometimes it can also be an early sign of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, developing in the prostate gland. This gland is located below the bladder and in the pelvis and is associated with male hormones and reproductive health.
In its early stages, prostate cancer often shows no symptoms, so it's important to pay attention to frequent urination or changes in urine flow. Timely testing and detection can help control it. Let's understand whether frequent urination in men is a symptom of prostate cancer and why this cancer occurs.
Dr. Rohit Kapoor, an oncologist at Max Hospital, explained that frequent urination can be a common symptom in the early stages of prostate cancer. Other signs may include difficulty urinating, weak urine flow, frequent nighttime urination, sudden difficulty controlling urination, and blood in the urine.
Some men may also experience symptoms such as pain in the back, hips, or spine, fatigue, and weight loss. In the early stages, the symptoms are mild, so men often ignore them. It is important to get timely prostate examinations and PSA tests so that the cancer can be detected early and treatment can be effective.
There can be several causes of prostate cancer. Age is the most common cause; men over 50 are at higher risk. A family history of prostate cancer also increases the risk. Hormonal changes, especially high levels of testosterone, can increase the likelihood of cancer.
Additionally, an unhealthy lifestyle such as a high-fat diet, low fiber intake, smoking, and alcohol consumption also increase the risk. All these factors can lead to abnormal growth of prostate cells, and gradually cancer can develop.
- Eat a balanced and nutritious diet, including green vegetables and fiber.
- Exercise and walk regularly.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol.
- Get regular prostate exams and PSA tests after age 50.
