New Delhi: Eid ul-Fitr, which is also known 'Meethi Eid' means Sweet Eid, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is one of the most important festivals for Muslim. Saudi Arabia official has officially announced that Eid ul-Fitr will be celebrated on March 20. This decision was made after the Shawwal moon was not sighted, making the fasting period a full 30 days.
The date and time of Eid ul-Fitr 2026 moon sighting may vary in different regions. Saudi Arabia and the UAE typically announce the sighting first, followed by India and Pakistan.
Official authorities and moon-sighting committees will announce Eid after sighting the moon after sunset.
Eid is known as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast" because it falls on the day after the last day of Ramadan.
According to a statement from the Saudi Supreme Court, it was announced on Monday that the Shawwal moon might be visible on the evening of Wednesday. However, the moon was not sighted on Wednesday.
Therefore, it is now expected that the moon will be visible on Thursday and Eid will be celebrated on Friday. Eid will also be celebrated on the same date in the UAE and other Gulf countries.
Ramadan started on February 18 and South Asian countries notably sight the moon the day after the Gulf countries. According to experts, in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, the moon will likely be sighted on Friday, and Eid will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21.
