As of 08:35 am, the BJP-led NDA was leading in 24 Assembly seats in Assam. Of those, the saffron party was ahead in 23 constituencies and its ally, the AGP, was leading on 1. Meanwhile, the Congress and its ally, the RD, were ahead on 4 and 1 seats respectively.
The counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly polls has begun in Assam. As many as 722 candidates are in the fray across the state.
As soon as the counting of votes for Assam Assembly elections begins, initial trends have started emerging. As of 8:20 am, just 20 minutes after counting began, the BJP-led NDA is leading on 12 seats.
At the same time, Congress is currently leading on only 1 seat. It is clear from the initial data that the picture of the contest is gradually becoming clear, although we will have to wait for the final results.
Before the results, Prime Minister Modi said that skill, hard work and compassion are the wonderful powers of our life. Through these, we can not only overcome every challenge, but they are also helpful in achieving our goals.

Bengal: 293, majority figure: 148
Assam: 126, majority figure: 64
Tamil Nadu-234, majority figure-118
Kerala: 140, majority figure: 71
Puducherry-30, majority figure-16
There is a contest between the ruling NDA, i.e., AINRC and BJP, versus Congress on 30 seats in Puducherry. A record 89.87% voting took place here, which is the highest in the electoral history here. In the exit polls, the NDA seems to be getting a clear majority, i.e., more than 16 seats. Being a small state, the results will come soon. If the NDA wins, the BJP's hold in South India will become stronger.

The counting of votes in four states and one union territory—West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry—will begin at 8 am.
Controversy arose after the video of slips lying on the floor surfaced on social media. CPIM candidate Gargi Chatterjee expressed displeasure over the commission. He said that this is the condition of the Election Commission. This is not an 'election' commission. This is a 'Nirjatan' (tyrannical) commission. There are some slips in my name, some slips of the BJP, and two or three slips of the TMC candidate lying here.
Exit polls have largely projected an advantage for the BJP-led alliance, though opposition parties remain hopeful of narrowing the gap in Upper Assam and minority-dominated regions. Key leaders in focus include chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal and Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi.
