Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, "Today, a very strange scene unfolded in the Lok Sabha. The Congress, TMC, DMK, and Samajwadi Party did not allow the passage of the essential Constitution Amendment Bill for the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Rejecting the bill that would grant 33% reservation to women, celebrating it, and raising victory cries over it is truly reprehensible and beyond imagination. Now, the women of the country will not get the 33% reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, which was their right. The Congress and its allies have done this not for the first time, but repeatedly. Their mindset is neither in the interest of women nor of the country. I want to tell them that this insult to Nari Shakti will not stop here; it will travel far and wide. The Women's Reservation Bill has failed to pass in the Lok Sabha. A total of 528 votes were cast in the Lok Sabha for the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill. There were 298 votes in favor of the bill, while 230 votes were cast against it.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "For 50 years, from 1976 to 2026, the people of this country did not receive representation in proportion to their population. This limit will end in 2026. After that, even if delimitation is undertaken, it cannot be completed before 2029, because the Delimitation Commission has a rule of conducting public hearings in every constituency. Conducting hearings across all 543 constituencies between mid-2026 and 2029 is practically not possible. Census data may be available by 2027. Therefore, if we want the 2029 elections to be held in the true spirit of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and ensure 33 per cent reservation for women, who constitute nearly 50 per cent of the electorate in this country, we have to bring this now."

I would like to clarify that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam mentions that women's reservation will be ensured after the delimitation process, which will take place following the Census after 2026. Now, some members questioned why the reference to the post-2026 Census was included while bringing the Bill. Let me clarify, we did not create this situation. In 1971, when Indira Gandhi's government was in power, the number of seats was frozen, and because of that freeze, we had to make this provision. Priya Saroj stated, "they are not opposed to women's reservation; rather, they are opposed to the approach being adopted. It should be implemented without delimitation, and the reservation should be granted immediately."
During this exchange, she addressed the Presiding Officer in Bhojpuri, saying, "I am speaking; wait for two minutes." Later, the Presiding Officer also responded in Bhojpuri, remarking, "All the points have been covered." At that time, Jagdambika Pal was occupying the Chair. Earlier in her address, Priya Saroj asserted that new history cannot be written using old data. She noted that the proposal calls for a new delimitation based on the 2011 census, and the authority to conduct this delimitation has now been vested in the government. Previously, delimitation was mandatory after every census; however, the government can now conduct it whenever it deems fit.
Rahul Gandhi stated that the BJP is suffering from a delusion. "They believe that they represent the people of India and the Indian Army. You are not the people of India; you are not the Indian Army. We attack you—not the Army or the people," Rahul Gandhi said.
He further mentioned that a deal had been signed with the United States. Interrupting him, the Speaker stated that while he was in the Chair, the discussion would be confined solely to the Bill. Rahul Gandhi declared that they would not allow this Bill to be passed.

On Women's Reservation Bill and delimitation, BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda said, "This is a historic bill and as the Prime Minister has said, whoever opposes it will only harm themselves because this is about the rights of women, it's not a gift. During the discussion on the Women's Reservation and Delimitation Bills in the special session of Parliament on Thursday, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi stated that these measures have been introduced with the intent of eliminating Muslim politics.
The AIMIM MP from Hyderabad first expressed the apprehension that "if these bills become law, the voice of the Opposition in this House (Lok Sabha) will be silenced. If you read this Constitutional Amendment Bill in conjunction with the Delimitation Bill, the allocation of seats will be based on population."
