Gurugram: A new case has been registered in Gurgaon against the Pranit More, stand-up comedian. Amid the recent "370 ki biryani" controversy, the case has been registered. The controversy sparked a debate on multiple topics such as increasing misogyny in the comedy culture and their limits.
Now, Gurugram Police have registered a new FIR against More and Himanshu Jangra following a complaint by the National Commission for Women (NCW).
The row began after a video from More's show went viral on social media. During an interaction with the audience, Jangra claimed that he expected sexual favours from a woman after spending Rs. 370 on chicken biryani during a date and later dropping her home.
The remarks sparked widespread outrage online. Many users accused him of promoting coercive behavior and disrespecting the idea of consent. More also faced criticism for laughing during the exchange and sharing the clip online.
After taking note of the incident, the NCW sought action from the police. The Commission said such comments appear to normalize coercive behavior and undermine women's dignity. This latest FIR comes days after the Maharashtra Cyber Cell registered a similar case against More, Jangra and others.
Both More and Jangra have since apologized. More admitted he should have stepped in during the conversation and called it a lapse in judgment. Reports also suggest that Jangra lost his job after the video went viral.
Women's groups have also protested against More, demanding accountability over the controversial remarks.
