Mumbai train derails: Two coaches of an empty local train derailed near Mumbai Central while entering a car shed, severely disrupting operations on the Western Railway. The incident, which occurred around 12:10 pm, blocked the slow track towards Dadar, impacting suburban services. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, as the train was not carrying passengers at the time of the derailment.

Impact on Mumbai rail services, video surfaces

The derailment of the local train has caused significant delays for commuters on the Western Railway line. The slow track leading to Dadar remains blocked as railway authorities work to restore normal operations. This disruption has added to the challenges faced by daily commuters in Mumbai, already known for its congested local train services.

Chennai rail division collision

In a separate incident, a serious collision occurred on Friday night in the Ponneri-Kavarapettai section of the Chennai rail division. The Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express, traveling at 75 km/h, derailed after unexpectedly switching to a loop line and crashing into a parked goods train. The impact led to the derailment of 12 coaches, two of which caught fire.

The passenger train, which was equipped with modern LHB coaches, passed Ponneri station at 8:27 PM and was initially cleared to continue on the main track. However, it experienced a sudden jolt near Kavarapettai, causing it to veer onto the wrong line and collide with the stationary train. Despite the severity of the crash, only minor injuries were reported among passengers, and no fatalities have been confirmed.

Cleanup and restoration efforts

Both incidents have caused significant disruption to rail services in their respective regions. Rail traffic in Chennai has been halted as crews work to clear the wreckage from the tracks. Authorities are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the switch malfunction that led to the Chennai collision.
