AI Summit, weddings, exams: Traffic advisory issued ahead of mega-expo (x)

New Delhi: As India prepares to host the AI Impact Summit 2026 from February 16 to 20 at Bharat Mandapam, the Delhi Traffic Police has rolled out a detailed advisory warning commuters of congestion across several central routes due to extensive VIP movement. 

What did the Delhi Traffic Police advise?

The Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued an elaborate advisory for the summit, warning of extensive diversions and regulated movement due to VIP convoys involving heads of state, ministers, and international delegates.

Due the summit, which is scheduled from February 16 to 20 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, traffic flow is expected to slow down in and around diplomatic and central administrative zones, according to officials. 

Police in the traffic advisory said that restrictions will be imposed in large parts of central Delhi, particularly in and around the Bharat Mandapam and around the hotels where the foreign delegates will be staying.

Which areas will be impacted?

A senior police officer said that, "In the interest of public safety, elaborate traffic restrictions will be implemented, especially in the New Delhi district and nearby areas, to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public convenience."

According to the advisory, traffic will remain impacted on, Mathura Road (Subramania Bharti Marg T-point to Lodhi Road flyover), Akbar Road, Janpath, Shanti Path, Satya Marg, Africa Avenue, APJ Abdul Kalam Road, Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Mahatma Gandhi Marg (Bhikaji Cama Place to Dhaula Kuan), Sikander Road, Ashoka Road, Prithvi Raj Road, Kautilya Marg, Purana Qila Road, Sher Shah Suri Marg, Tilak Marg, Bhagwan Das Road, Sansad Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Tuglak Road, Panchsheel Marg, San Martin Marg, Nyaya Marg and Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg.

"Non-destination vehicles will be diverted to eastern and western peripheral expressways, while emergency vehicles will be provided obstruction-free passage," said deputy commissioner of police (DCP-traffic) Rajiv Kumar.

What about airport?

The police have issued detailed alternate routes for passengers travelling to the airport.

Traffic movement to the Indira Gandhi International Airport will be facilitated via NH-48, Rao Gajraj Singh Marg, UER-I, and Sector-22 Dwarka Tunnel, depending on the terminal.

Essential services, including medical emergency vehicles, will be provided uninterrupted passage throughout the city.

The official said that the traffic will also be surged by the ongoing wedding season and school board examinations that start on Tuesday.

What about board exams?

The CBSE board examinations are also scheduled to begin from February 17.

The police said that 10 schools located along the VIP corridors have been identified as vulnerable to disruption.

"To minimise disruption, traffic police have deployed nodal officers for each school, shared their contact details with education authorities, and circulated multiple alternate routes. School managements have been asked to coordinate directly with these officers and guide parents and students accordingly,” Kumar said.

Delhi Traffic Police said it has worked jointly with officials from the Education Department to ensure smooth traffic management and to minimise inconvenience to students and the public. 

"As the examination starts at 10:30 am, hence, all the students have been directed to reach their examination centre on or before 10 am,” Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE Examination Controller, said.

Bhardwaj added that keeping in view the important National/International Summits, high-level meetings and other programmes scheduled to be held during the examination days, due to the anticipated traffic regulations.

When is the event? 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the India AI Impact Expo 2026 on Monday at 5 pm at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital.

The India AI Impact Expo 2026 will be held from February 16 to 20, alongside the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam and will be attended by the top global leaders.

The five-day summit will see the participation of Heads of State, Heads of Government, Ministers, foreign delegates, and representatives of international organisations.
