New Delhi: Those traveling by air may face delays in the next few days. Airbus has issued technical specifications for the A320 aircraft operating around the world, which may have a direct impact on the domestic flights of Air India and IndiGo. Both companies have a large number of A320 aircraft in their fleet, so there is a possibility of delays and cancellations on many routes.

What are the preparations of Air India?

Air India issued a statement on social media saying that due to the new guidelines of Airbus, necessary software and hardware updates will be done in its A320 aircraft. The company has already warned passengers that:

  • Flights may be delayed
  • Turnaround time may take longer
  • Some services may be temporarily disrupted

Air India has requested passengers to check their flight status online before arriving at the airport or contact customer care numbers if necessary. The company said, “We regret this inconvenience, but these changes are necessary, keeping security in mind.”

What advice did Indigo give?

Indigo has also issued an advisory. The company clearly said that safety is their first priority, and as per the technical instructions issued by Airbus, it is making mandatory updates in its A320 aircraft.

According to Indigo:

  • Timings of some flights may be changed
  • Teams available 24 hours to help passengers
  • Rebooking facility will also be provided if needed

What is the problem after all?

Airbus has reported that some A320 aircraft are being affected by strong solar radiation. High levels of radiation during flight can disrupt data transmission. The company has identified such aircraft and has asked the operators to make technical changes immediately.

How many flights may be affected?

This advisory is affecting flights not only in India but all over the world. Japan's ANA Airlines has canceled 65 flights due to this reason.
In India it is estimated that:

  • 200 to 250 flights may be affected
  • Many flights will be delayed
  • Some flights may also be canceled
