New Delhi: Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the investigation of the bomb threat emails sent to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and several other institutions across the country. They have arrested Sharad Subramaniam, a software employee from Chennai. He is accused of creating a fake email address and sending hundreds of threatening messages across the country.

According to investigating officials, the accused created several fake email accounts. Using these accounts, he allegedly sent 700 to 800 bomb threat emails to various cities and institutions across India. These messages prompted security agencies in several locations to issue alerts and conduct extensive investigations.

Cases were being registered for two years

According to the police, numerous cases related to such threats have been filed over the past two years. Twenty-five cases were registered in 2025, while 17 cases have been reported so far in 2026. Thus, investigating agencies have been trying to reach the accused in a total of 42 cases for a long time.

Shocking claims surfaced during the investigation

Since being taken into custody, police have been continuously questioning the accused. During the investigation, the accused reportedly stated that he was experiencing personal stress and expressed displeasure with Tamil Nadu politics and the DMK government. Police are now trying to determine the extent to which personal stress and political reasons were linked to these threatening emails.

The accused has a professional background

The investigation revealed that the accused had a higher education and had worked in the software field. It is reported that he worked for three to four years after completing his studies. Prior to his arrest, he was living in Chennai.

Police are now investigating all the fake email accounts allegedly used to make the threats. They are also investigating the institutions and individuals to whom the emails were sent. Investigating agencies are also working to determine the connections between the cases registered in various states. Police believe that questioning the accused will reveal the true nature of the entire network and its activities. The investigation is currently ongoing, and further legal action is being prepared.
