Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal Attacked in Maharashtra, Hospitalised (X)
New Delhi: Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked on Thursday by a Nihang with a sharp weapon inside a gurdwara in the Mata Sahib Kaur area of Nanded, Maharashtra.
The incident occurred at around 11 am after Sukhbir Singh Badal arrived in Maharashtra's Nanded from Punjab. The leader was on a personal visit and had been provided security as per the scheduled security arrangements.
The Shiromani Akali Dal chief suffered a minor injury to his right hand in the attack and was taken to a private hospital for treatment.
A policeman deployed for his security was also injured in the attack. Sukhbir Singh Badal has been admitted to Yashosai Hospital for treatment. Sukhbir Singh is said to be out of danger after the attack.
A video of him being taken to the hospital has also surfaced, in which he is seen getting out of the car and going inside on his own. A cloth was tied around his hand.
According to sources, a Nihang attacked Sukhbir Singh Badal. So far, Akali Dal members maintain that a single individual was behind the attack. Sources say the Nihang attacked with a kirpan. As the attacker attempted to target Badal, a security guard intervened to save him. The guard was seriously injured while protecting Sukhbir Singh Badal. Police are currently examining CCTV footage to identify the attacker and determine the sequence of events.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has requested a report from the Nanded Superintendent of Police in this matter. He has ordered a police investigation and a report into the attack on Badal.
This is not the first time Sukhbir Singh Badal has been attacked in this manner. Previously, on December 4, 2024, Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. He narrowly escaped an assassination attempt. The attack occurred while Sukhbir was offering religious prayers. During this, a gunman fired a shot, which struck a wall.
