Taking prompt action after a video of Union Minister Amit Shah showing support for the abolition of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) surfaced on social media, Delhi Police on Sunday registered a case. The video has sparked controversy soon after it surfaced on social media. Responding to the allegations of misinformation, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has filed a complaint seeking strict action against those who are involved in the same.

The statement in the FIR alleged that it has been found that some doctored videos are being circulated by users of Facebook and Twitter. The videos seem to be doctored spreading misleading information to create disharmony among communities which is likely to affect public tranquility and public order issues. A report is also attached with the complaint containing details of links and handles from which the doctored videos of the Hon'ble Home Minister of India are being shared.

The case has been registered under sections 153/153A/465/469/171G and 66C of the IT Act, the police said on Sunday. According to the sources, the arrest will follow across the nation.

BJP shows concern

Following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) worries about the video's veracity, the Delhi Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Sunday. The BJP has criticized the video, claiming that it was edited to misrepresent Shah's initial remarks made at a political gathering.
Amit Malviya, a BJP spokesperson, claims that the aforementioned video has been edited to falsely portray Shah's comments against Telangana's Muslim reservation quotas.

Here’s what the video says:

According to the video that has been circulated on social media, Amit Shah while speaking at the 'Vijaya Sankalp Sabha' on April 23, in Telangana had said that "unconstitutional Muslim reservation would be abolished" if BJP comes into power in Telangana.

"I want to say this if the BJP forms a government, then this unconstitutional Muslim reservation will be abolished. These rights belong to SC, ST, and OBC and it will be given to them by abolishing Muslim reservation," Amit Shah said.

After the registration of the case, the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit started the investigation of the case.
