Assam: There has been a report of tragedy at Assam's Dima Hasao district mining site as three miners reportedly lost their lives trapped in the flooded coal mine. The other six miners were left stranded in the mine, and rescue work by the authorities is being undertaken to bring them out desperately.

Flooding Traps Miners in Mine

Confirmed on Tuesday, officials said a flood trapped nine miners inside a coal mine in the remote Dima Hasao district. A wall from an underground water channel has collapsed, and this is probably what triggered the flooding. Miners were reportedly working inside what appears to be an illegal mine-a cause for concern about safety violations.

Rescue operations are continuing

Rescue teams, comprising soldiers, divers, and engineers, are racing against time to try and rescue miners trapped in flooded mine shaft. As expected, the harsh conditions have only made the entrance into the mine shaft a long process since this morning. The shaft is some 150 feet deep, leaving a considerable percentage of it flooded.

Three bodies found, recovery delayed

Reports confirm that three bodies are found but are extremely difficult to reach due to the demanding terrain, coupled with flooding. The rescue workers slowly move through the mine in search of retrieving bodies and taking survivors to safety. The situation is still grave as rescue teams move forward with risky conditions.

Major Hazard

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has hinted that the mine from which the disaster has happened seems to be an illegal one. The local police have already arrested one in this connection and the investigation has started. Here, many accidents occurred due to mining. So, this was the result of an unregulated mining practice. At least three miners are feared dead and six others trapped in a flooded illegal coal mine in Assam, where rescue operations have gained intensity.
