AAP leader and Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition Atishi has accused the Modi Government and BJP of using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at Saurabh Bharadwaj’s house as a way to divert attention from the ongoing controversy over Prime Minister Modi’s “fake degree”. She said Delhi University refused to show Modi’s degree despite an RTI request and instead went to the High Court. Atishi questioned why the university is not proud to call the Prime Minister its former student. She also pointed out that Bharadwaj was not a minister at the time linked to the case, calling the entire matter false.

University questioned over hiding PM’s degree

Addressing a press conference at the AAP headquarters on Tuesday, Atishi said the raid was completely baseless and meant only to distract from the nationwide discussion about Modi’s degree that began on Monday. She explained that an RTI activist had obtained a directive from the Central Information Commission (CIC) requiring Delhi University to present Modi’s degree. However, the university did not comply and instead challenged the order in the High Court. Atishi questioned, “If Delhi University is not proud that the country’s Prime Minister was once its student, then what kind of university is this?” She gave examples, saying that when Rekha Gupta became the Chief Minister of Delhi, Delhi University proudly honoured her as its alumna. Similarly, when she herself became Chief Minister, both St Stephen’s College and Oxford University celebrated her achievement. “But Delhi University wants to hide Modi’s degree, which is raising questions across the country,” she added.

Raid termed ‘false case’ against Bharadwaj

Atishi claimed that the ED raid at Saurabh Bharadwaj’s home was staged to cover up the debate on Modi’s degree. She said the case being referred to (related to construction projects in 24 Delhi hospitals during 2018–19) was fabricated, since Bharadwaj was not a minister at that time and only became one two years later. Calling it ridiculous, she compared it to conducting raids on Modi or Rekha Gupta over scams from the Congress era like the 2G scam, Commonwealth Games scam, or Colgate scam. Taking a dig at BJP, Atishi said, “AAP has never engaged in corruption of even a single rupee and never will.” She recalled the example of Satyendar Jain, who was also raided under a false case, but years later both CBI and ED had to file closure reports as they found no evidence. She asserted that BJP’s conspiracies have always failed and will continue to fail. She further asked that if Bharadwaj can be raided for a time when he was not even a minister, then will Modi be raided for old scams like 2G or Colgate? “This is nothing but a conspiracy to divert attention and intimidate AAP, but AAP will not be scared,” she declared.

Atishi’s remarks on social media

"Why was there a raid at Saurabh Ji's house today?" Atishi wrote on platform X.Because everyone in the nation is wondering if Modi Ji's degree is a fraud. The raid was conducted in order to divert attention from this conversation. But Saurabh Ji wasn't even a minister when the case was brought up.Thus, the case as a whole is untrue. She also remembered that both the ED and the CBI ultimately had to give a closure report after Satyendar Jain was detained for three years."This demonstrates that every accusation made against AAP leaders is untrue and driven by politics," Atishi stated.
