Political Heat in Bihar as Two-Phase Assembly Elections Loom (Social Media)

Bihar Elections: Political activity has intensified in Bihar regarding the assembly elections. Political parties are finalizing their preparations. The Election Commission is expected to announce the election dates in the first week of October. According to preliminary indications, the elections may be held in two phases.

Electoral Contest and Issues

This time the election can be seen in the main contest between the NDA and the opposition alliance India Front. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will try to maintain public confidence in his long experience and development agenda. At the same time, the opposition is trying to strengthen its position by raising issues like unemployment, migration, education, and corruption.

The Importance of Caste Equations

Political analysts believe that caste dynamics in Bihar could play a decisive role in this election. About 63 percent of the state's population is comprised of backward and extremely backward classes. The Yadav community constitutes approximately 14 percent, while the EBC community comprises 36 percent. Scheduled Castes constitute 19 percent, and upper castes approximately 15 percent. The Muslim community accounts for 17 percent, many of whom fall under the OBC category. Previous caste surveys and data play a major role in political strategy.

Central Strategy and the BJP

The central government approved the National Caste Census in April 2025. Political analysts believe this will provide the BJP with an opportunity to strengthen its hold on the OBC and Hindu vote banks. At the same time, it could pose a challenge for the opposition to maintain its hold on social and economic issues.

NDA and Opposition Preparations

The NDA alliance is emphasizing spreading the message of its development and stability to the public. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will contest the elections, keeping confidence in his alliance and upper-caste vote bank. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav is active on issues like unemployment, education, and migration and is trying to give an edge to his election strategy.

Issues like caste arithmetic, development, and employment will be decisive in the Bihar Assembly elections. The full picture will become clear only after the Election Commission announces the dates, but for now, political preparations are in full swing in the state.
