Bihar Goes to Vote Tomorrow (Credit: OpenAI)
Bihar: Before going to vote, every voter must know that carrying a Voter ID card is the simplest and most accepted identity document at polling stations. But, if someone does not have their Voter ID for any reason, they do not lose the right to vote. The Election Commission allows several other identity documents such as Aadhaar card, driving license, PAN card, bank passbook with photo, passport, or any government-issued photo ID to verify identity. You only need to carry one of these documents. Make sure your name is already on the voter list, which you can check online or at the polling booth. Reaching with the correct document avoids delays and helps the voting process move smoothly.
The first phase of voting in Bihar will be held on November 6 from 7 AM to 5 PM across 121 constituencies in 18 districts. The second phase will take place on November 11. According to the Election Commission, if a voter is already standing in the queue by 5 PM, they will still be allowed to cast their vote even if their turn comes later. Voters are advised to confirm the booth number and location one day before voting. Bihar has more than 74 million registered voters this year, and nearly 90,000 polling booths have been set up to ensure that the voting process remains smooth and accessible for everyone.\
When you reach your polling booth, the first polling officer will look at your identity document and verify your details from the voter list. Once confirmed, the second officer will mark your finger with indelible ink, which shows that you have come to vote. This is a standard practice across India and stays on the finger for days to prevent repeat voting. After that, another officer will ask for your signature or thumb impression to confirm your identity officially in the voter record. This step ensures that every vote is genuine and properly recorded.
After verification, you will be guided to the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine). The officer there will switch on the machine only after you enter the booth. Each candidate’s name and party symbol will be listed on the machine. Look carefully and locate your preferred candidate. Press the blue button next to the candidate’s name. A short beep sound will confirm that your vote has been registered. Take your time, make sure you press correctly, and do not rush even if the line is long.
Right after you press the blue button, the VVPAT machine will show a printed slip through a small window. This slip shows the candidate’s name and party symbol you voted for. It will remain visible for about seven seconds and then automatically drop into a sealed box. Check this slip carefully. If the slip does not match your choice, inform the booth officer immediately. This step ensures transparency and builds trust in the voting process.
Mobile phones, cameras, or any electronic recording devices are not allowed inside the polling booth. Do not take photos or record videos while voting. Do not try to influence other voters or talk loudly about political preferences inside the booth area. Follow instructions of the polling staff. Maintain silence, respect the queue, and allow elderly or differently-abled voters to go first if needed. Your cooperation helps maintain a peaceful voting environment.
Bihar is choosing a new state government for the next five years. Your vote decides development, leadership, welfare schemes, and the future direction of your area. Whether you are a first-time voter or someone who has been voting for years, your participation strengthens democracy. Voting is not just a right; it is a responsibility. One vote can influence change, representation, and progress in your own community.
