National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Vijaya Rahatkar has described the MP's statement as a symbol of 'narrow and discriminatory mentality'. He said that this statement is against the basic spirit of the Constitution, which gives equal rights to women. Bihar State Women Commission has also taken suo motu cognizance of this matter. The Women's Commission has asked Pappu Yadav to publicly tender an unconditional apology for this derogatory comment.
During a program, Pappu Yadav had said, "Without a leader's room, 90 percent women cannot do politics. CCTV footage of leaders comes every day. A culture of harassing women has developed. Daughters are being exploited everywhere from school, college to office."
Amidst the controversies, news came that Pappu Yadav's health deteriorated during the election campaign for the Congress candidate in the Malda district of West Bengal. Due to the scorching heat, he complained of dehydration, after which he had to be admitted to the hospital. However, he has been discharged from the hospital after first aid. He had left for Purnia.
