15-Day Claim Window Ends in Bihar, Over 1 Lakh New Voter Applications Submitted (Social Media)
National News: The 15-day window for filing claims and objections on the draft voter list, issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, has officially ended. During this period, thousands of voters submitted requests to add their names, correct errors, and raise objections.
According to the Election Commission, a total of 28,370 claims and objections were received, of which 857 cases have already been resolved. In addition, more than 103,703 new applications were submitted by citizens aged 18 years and above to include their names in the list. These also include six forms submitted through Booth-Level Agents (BLA).
The Election Commission has made it clear that all claims and objections will be reviewed by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Assistant ERO (AERO) within a stipulated period of seven days. Officials will verify the required documents before making any changes to the list. If a voter’s name needs to be deleted or modified, the concerned individual will first be given an opportunity to present their case. The Commission emphasized that no voter’s name will be removed from the draft list without proper investigation and due procedure.
Commission officials stressed that the entire exercise is being conducted in a transparent and impartial manner. Booth-Level Agents and local administration have also been involved in the process to ensure that the rights of voters remain fully protected. The Commission believes these measures will strengthen the credibility of the electoral process and ensure smoother conduct of upcoming elections.
Once the claims and objections are fully addressed, the final voter list will be published. According to the Commission, this final list will serve as the basis for conducting all upcoming elections in Bihar.
Election experts note that such large-scale and comprehensive revision exercises play a vital role in strengthening democracy. Keeping the voter rolls accurate and up-to-date is essential for maintaining election transparency. The Election Commission has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen is included in the voter list so that no individual is deprived of their fundamental right to vote.
