BRICS Summit Day 2: PM Modi’s Key Meetings, New Delhi Declaration And Global Media Buzz

New Delhi: Today is the second and important day of the 18th BRICS summit going on in Delhi. On the first day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with leaders of many countries. At the same time, the whole world was keeping an eye on his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the conference, a consensus was reached among the BRICS countries regarding the New Delhi Declaration, which is being considered a major diplomatic success for India.

When will BRICS programme start today?

Leaders and ministers of BRICS partner and invited countries will start arriving at Level-2 of Bharat Mandapam at 9:55 am on Sunday. After this there will be a family photo at 10:35.

The open session will start at 10:50 am in Summit Hall. Its theme is ‘Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth’. During this, global development, cooperation and economic challenges will be discussed.

Issues related to bilateral relations as well as trade, investment and mutual cooperation are expected to be discussed in these meetings.

What issues were agreed upon in the New Delhi Manifesto?

The New Delhi Declaration of about 45 pages has been agreed upon among the BRICS countries. This includes many issues like terrorism, situation in West Asia, trade, energy and reform of global institutions.

The manifesto takes a tough stand against terrorism and expresses concern over safe havens for terrorists and cross-border terrorism. Emphasis has been laid on finding a solution to the issue of West Asia through dialogue and diplomacy.

What is the stance of BRICS regarding tariffs and trade?

The manifesto raised concerns about unilateral tariffs and trade restrictions. BRICS countries have also talked about promoting trade and investment in local currencies. Apart from this, emphasis has also been laid on increasing health cooperation and strengthening international cooperation against organised fraud and illegal money.

After the meeting of Modi-Jinping and the consensus on the manifesto, everyone's eyes will be on today's meetings also. India's effort in the conference has been to increase mutual cooperation within BRICS and formulate a common stance on important global issues.
