Budget Session To Begin Today in Parliament, Opposition Set to Raise MGNREGA and SIR Issues (Image Courtesy: Urban Voices)
New Delhi: The budget session of Parliament is starting on Wednesday. On the first day, President Draupadi Murmu will address the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha together. After this, a long debate on budget and other issues will begin in Parliament.
This year the budget session will run from January 28 to April 2. There will be a break of a few days in between. The first part will take place from January 28 to February 13. The second part will start on March 9 and end on April 2. There will be about 30 meetings of Parliament during this period.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the budget for the year 2026–27 on February 1. Common people, businessmen and farmers all have expectations from this budget. Everyone will keep an eye on announcements related to changes in tax, relief from inflation and employment.
A day before the budget session, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called a meeting of leaders of all parties. People from both government and opposition participated in it. The purpose of the meeting was that the work of Parliament should proceed without much uproar and important issues could be discussed properly.
Congress has said that it will strongly raise some issues in Parliament this time. These include problems related to MNREGA, lack of employment in rural areas, special intensive revision related to voter list and questions related to the environment. The party says that these are issues that are directly related to the lives of common people.
On Tuesday, an important meeting of Congress leaders was held at Sonia Gandhi's house. It was presided over by Sonia Gandhi. Party President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi were also present in this meeting.
After the meeting, MP Syed Naseer Hussain said that the biggest focus of the party will be on MNREGA. Apart from this, questions related to Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, environment and foreign policy will also be raised in Parliament.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has called another meeting on Wednesday morning. In this it will be decided on which issues the opposition will together seek answers from the government during the budget session and how it will present its views.
