CRPF Vehicle with 23 Onboard Plunges into Gorge in J&K; 3 Killed, Many Hurt (Image Source: Agencies)
Three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) lost their lives and 16 others were injured when their vehicle met with an accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Wednesday. The incident happened near Kandva in the Basantgarh area.
Police said the vehicle was carrying 23 CRPF jawans when it went off the road and fell into a deep gorge. The incident took place around 10:30 am in the morning while the personnel were returning from an operation in Basant garh. The vehicle belonged to the 187th battalion of the CRPF.
While two jawans lost their lives at the spot, while another died on the way to the hospital due to injuries. The remaining 16 injured personnel were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Additional Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Bhat, said rescue teams reached the spot quickly and started helping the injured.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Member of Parliament from Udhampur, Dr. Jitendra Singh, said the news was very upsetting. He mentioned that he had spoken to Udhampur’s Deputy Commissioner, Saloni Rai, who was present at the site and personally looking after the situation.
He also shared that rescue work had started without delay and that local people were also helping. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he assured that all needed support was being given.
Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, said he was very sad about the deaths. He said their sacrifice would always be remembered and sent his condolences to the families of the deceased. He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured and stated that he had directed senior officers to make sure proper medical care was provided to all the injured jawans.
