Darbhanga: Youth arrested for indecent remarks on PM Modi, Congress connection surfaces

National News: Police have arrested a youth identified as Rafiq, who allegedly made objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother during the Mahagathbandhan’s Voter Rights Yatra in Darbhanga. The incident, which was captured on video, quickly went viral on social media and sparked a political storm.

The controversy began when the yatra, which started from Sitamarhi, reached Darbhanga. At a public gathering, Rafiq is said to have hurled abusive remarks at the Prime Minister. The footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media, after which BJP leaders strongly criticized Congress and Rahul Gandhi, holding them responsible for lowering the standards of political discourse.

FIR Filed Against Congress Leader

Darbhanga BJP district president Adityanath Narayan Manna lodged an FIR at Simri police station. In the complaint, Congress leader Mohammad Naushad, the organizer of the event, was named as an accused. The FIR stated that the remarks were not only an insult to the Prime Minister but also to the entire nation.

Following the backlash, organizer Naushad issued an apology, clarifying that the abusive words were spoken by Rafiq, not by any party leader. He further claimed that the youth was mentally unstable, though the police have not confirmed this.

BJP Registers Case Against Rahul Gandhi

The BJP also escalated the matter politically by filing a separate case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Patna, holding him morally responsible for the incident. BJP leaders alleged that such acts reflect the “mentality of the Congress and its allies” and said they had “never witnessed such meanness in politics before.”

Arrest of the Youth

Amid growing outrage, Darbhanga police identified Rafiq on the basis of the viral video and arrested him. Officials have so far refrained from giving detailed statements on the arrest or confirming claims about his mental health. However, the arrest has further fueled the political slugfest in Bihar, with the BJP pressing for strict action and accountability, even as Congress leaders attempted to disassociate themselves from the controversy.
