New Delhi: The Delhi Police has taken action and registered an FIR in connection with the Youth Congress protest at the AI Impact Summit venue at Bharat Mandapam. According to the police, the Indian Youth Congress is accused of assaulting and causing hurt to a public servant, disobeying the orders of a public servant, unlawful assembly, and violating prohibitory orders during the protest. A case has been registered under Section 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police state that necessary legal action is being taken to maintain law and order. Further investigation is underway.
Delhi Police arrested four Youth Congress workers in connection with the protest at the AI Impact Summit venue on Friday. The police are investigating the possibility of a larger conspiracy. An official stated that the arrested accused have been identified as Youth Congress National Secretary Krishna Hari from Bihar, State Secretary Kundan Yadav from Bihar, State President Ajay Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, and Narasimha Yadav from Telangana. Delhi Police is also questioning Uday Bhanu Chib, president of the Indian Youth Congress. The interrogation is taking place at the Parliament Street police station.
Earlier in the day, police detained around 10 IYC activists for protesting shirtless inside the venue's exhibition hall. Additional Police Commissioner Devesh Mahala said, "The Indian Youth Congress held a protest, which involved around 15 people. Inside the lobby area of Hall No. 5, they protested by removing the hidden T-shirts they were wearing underneath their shirts." Another police officer said that the four accused will be produced in the Patiala House Court later today; an FIR is being registered and several serious charges are being imposed. He said that the accused also scuffled with security personnel and police personnel deployed at the scene.
Officials said investigators are investigating whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the incident. Police sources said the protesters had registered online to obtain QR codes to enter the conference venue and later protested inside Exhibition Hall No. 5. Some protesters engaged in a heated argument with attendees, after which security personnel removed them.
According to sources, the protesters also scuffled with policemen on duty. The accused had initially planned to paste printed stickers on black umbrellas. However, they later realized that the black umbrellas might be detected during gate checks. So, they changed their plan and put the stickers on T-shirts. An investigation is underway to determine where the stickers were printed. Delhi Police has started raids in Delhi-NCR in connection with the Youth Congress protest at Bharat Mandapam.
