Eminent Hindi writer and Jnanpith Award winner Vinod Kumar Shukla passes away at 89 (X/@RealRatnakar)
Raipur: In a shocking incident, eminent Chhattisgarh-based Hindi writer and Jnanpith Award recipient Vinod Kumar Shukla passed away on Tuesday evening. As per his family members, he passed away due to age-related ailments at a government hospital here. Vinod Kumar Shukla was 89.
As per reports of news agency, Vinod Kumar Shukla was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, on December 2 after complaining some breathing difficulties. He breathed his last at 4.48 pm on Tuesday, his son, Shashwat Shukla told PTI. He is survived by his wife, son Shashwat and a daughter.

As per the statement of his family members, his mortal remains will be first taken to his residence. Meanwhile, details related to his last rites will be announced shortly, said his family members.
Vinod Kumar Shukla's son Shashwat Shukla revealed that his father had breathing problems in October. Soon he was admitted to a private hospital in Raipur. He was later discharged from the hospital after he showed improvement in his health but he continued treatment at home.
But after some health concern he was again admitted to AIIMS Raipur, hospital on December 2, revealed his son.
Vinod Kumar Shukla was a celebrated author. His popular works included 'Naukar Ki Kameez', 'Deewar Mein Ek Khidki Rehti Thi', 'Khilega To Dekhenge', and 'Ek Chuppi Jagah'. He was known for his unique and simple writing style.
One of the renowned author, Vinod Kumar Shukla, for his unparalleled contribution received the 59th Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honour. He was presented the award on November 21 this year in Raipur. Interestingly, he was the first author from Chhattisgarh to receive the prestigious award.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Chhattisgarh spoke to the family members of Vinod Kumar Shukla, and asked about his well-being.
It is worthy to be mentioned here that filmmaker Mani Kaul, adapted his novel 'Naukar Ki Kameez' into a film by the same name.
