Fuel Prices To Stay Put: Centre Assures No Increase In Petrol, Diesel, LPG

New Delhi: Amid the West Asia crisis, the government on Monday assured that domestic LPG and fuel supplies will remain stable and uninterrupted. There are no plans to increase retail prices of petrol, diesel or LPG cylinders. 

What did government say?

During an inter-ministerial briefing, Petroleum Ministry officials said on Monday that domestic LPG and fuel supplies will remain stable and uninterrupted amid tensions in West Asia.

The official said that there are no plans to increase retail prices of petrol, diesel, or domestic LPG cylinders at this time. The government also said domestic LPG supplies are normal, with online bookings rising to 99 percent on Sunday.

Petroleum Ministry officials told an inter-ministerial briefing that there is no shortage of LPG at retail outlets.

The official said that "Domestic LPG supply remains stable with no stockouts, record-high online bookings, and about 94 per cent deliveries completed with authentication codes, while commercial LPG supply is at around 70 per cent. Natural gas supply to fertilizer plants has been increased to 98 per cent, with 80 per cent supply to industrial and commercial sectors."

"PNG connections have expanded significantly, and petrol and diesel remain adequately available across retail outlets with no reported shortages. Crude inventories are sufficient, refineries are operating at optimal capacity, and supplies to key sectors like pharma and chemicals continue. Enforcement actions are ongoing, and the public has been urged not to panic or believe rumors, and to use fuel responsibly."

What about online booking?

While online bookings for LPG are at an all-time high, on the fuel front, officials have confirmed that retail prices of petrol and diesel remain unchanged.

Crude oil inventories have been adequately maintained, while refineries are operating at maximum capacity. It is also recognised that international crude oil, LPG, and natural gas prices have risen sharply.

Are there preparations to increase LNG storage tanks?

India is preparing to build new tanks to store liquefied natural gas (LNG) to enhance its energy security amid tensions and rising risks in West Asia, according to media reports.

Petronet LNG Ltd, India's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer, shared this information on Monday. India imports about 50 per cent of its natural gas needs.

What about rising demand?

Energy demand in the country is constantly increasing, but the government and relevant agencies are actively working to maintain balance. Increasing online LPG bookings and stable fuel prices indicate that the situation is currently under control.
